The 1986 statue stands in front of a health centre
The ‘Mime’ statue was created in 1986. It was originally supposed to be installed in front of Mahenovo divadlo (the Mahen Theatre), but local heritage authorities didn’t approve of this placement. The statue was finally installed in 2002 at Žerotínovo náměstí (Žerotín Square) in the place where a memorial to Klement Gottwald had been. That memorial was removed after 1989 when Bílý dům (the White House) ceased to be the residence of the City Committee of the Czechoslovak Communist Party. One of the reasons for putting ‘Mime’ here is that this was the site of the historical building of the first solely Czech theatre, Divadlo na Veveří (the Veveří Theatre), before it was demolished. The current building now serves as a health centre.
