KEITH JARRETT: THE KÖLN CONCERT
KEITH JARRETT The Köln Concert
Maki Namekawa piano
Thomas Enhco piano
24 January 1975 is a date inscribed in golden letters in the history of jazz. In front of the packed auditorium of the opera in Köln, Keith Jarrett performed a set of improvisations between jazz and classical music. Lasting for more than an hour, the release of the recording on the newly established Munich-based label, ECM, was a sensation. The Köln Concert became the best-selling solo record in the history of jazz, as well as the best-selling piano album ever.
Nearly 50 years after the concert, Jarrett’s material from the album was adopted by the Japanese and French pianists respectively Maki Namekawa and Thomas Enhco, who presented it in 2023 at four sold-out performances at Philharmonie de Paris. The project that breathed new life into the legendary album will now receive its first Czech performance, and Brno’s audiences have much to look forward to!
