ABOUT THE FILM

The epic costume drama Marguerite is about a passion built upon one great lie. The story is loosely based on the life of the American, Florence Foster Jenkins, the opera singer who at an advance age gained world notoriety in the 1940s for her atrocious voice. Marguerite Dumont is similarly a wealthy socialite, a lover of music, and opera buff who regularly sings to entertain her guests, and does so abominably out of key. Polite society does not have the heart or courage, however, to point out her complete absence of talent. Her husband and friends allow her to live under this illusion, a decision placed under the severest scrutiny when Marguerite decides to perform before the paying public…

FILMING LOCATIONS

Mahen Theatre

The Mahen Theatre is one of the most important architectural monuments in Brno. With its carefully blended Neo-Renaissance façade, it dominates Malinovsky Square and was once the first fully illuminated theatre in Europe. The theatre’s rousing Neo-Baroque interior, characteristic of late Historicism, is richly ornamented, whether in the theatre vestibule, foyer, or in parts of the auditorium, decorated by allegorical ceiling lunettes and a remarkable crystal chandelier, for example.
