OHB: Špilberk Park

  • Údolní, Brno

Špilberk Park covers a generous 17 ha, and must be the most important Brno park established by the city authority. As a unique example of garden design, it has been declared a national cultural monument alongside Špilberk Castle. For defensive reasons, during the Middle Ages, the upper slopes of Špilberk Hill were kept bare of vegetation; the lower slopes, meanwhile, were planted with vineyards and orchards. A landscape park in the Romantic style was created on the initiative of Brno mayor Christian d’Elvert in the years 1861–1862. Now the park is tended by the publically financed body that oversees the city’s green spaces – Veřejná zeleň města Brna, who invite you to enjoy the brand new rose garden.
