The exhibition presents the collecting phenomenon that led, historically, first to the inception of cabinets of curiosities of products of nature and later to the creation of museums, such as the Francis´ Museum.
Their common denominator was the desire of knowledge und accumulation of material evidence from the field of history, art, and nature. Extensive collections represent thus the cultural and natural heritage of the nation.
The exhibition also makes the visitor acquainted with important representatives of the then social, cultural and scientific life who contributed to the foundation of the Francis´ Museum. They as well as many others not only surrendered to the passion of collecting but they first of all were keen on transmitting this evidence of knowledge to the whole nation. The visitor has the unique opportunity to see valuable items kept in the collections for 200 years.
