Křišťálový sál Staré radnice
English madrigals, fantasies and fantasia suites of the 16th and 17th centuries.
Recurring Company (HU): Dóra Haraszti — recorder | Júlia Regős — viola da gamba | Fanni Edőcs — harpsichord
This programme presents a cross-section of the history of the fantasia in England from the mid 16th to the end of the 17th century. The genre fantasia meant originally simply a freely composed piece of music (without text, without a cantus firmus), but it evolved into a uniquely English style, the fantasia suite: A sombre, darkish fantasia that gradually develops into a display of virtuosity, followed by two embellished dance movements. The motto of this genre could aptly be described as from darkness into the light, matching the spirit of the Lenten period.
