Philharmonic at home I

• Popular overture to a Rossini opera inspired by Voltaire’s tragedy about the fabled Assyrian Queen Semiramide
• Virtuoso concerto by a paragon of Viennese classicism, numbered second but composed chronologically first
• Antonín Dvořák’s 1875 pivotal opus, an intermediary step on the path towards his supreme symphonies
• A work that without doubt rehabilitated the form of classical symphony, viewed at the time as exhausted, and gave it new content
• Igor Ardašev, the Philharmonic’s soloist of the season, celebrates an important anniversary this year and gives us his take on Beethoven
• Under the baton of Petr Altrichter, former chief conductor of Brno Philharmonic, today the orchestra’s regular guest
